Paul Harris explains his original intuition
Transcript :
“After a dinner with friends, an idea came to me: why in this great Chicago not have a group of friends from different professions, without taking into account either their political opinions or their religion, with broad acceptance of the opinions of each?
Couldn’t this friendship provide the basis for mutual assistance?
I did not immediately follow up on my sparkling idea; months and even years have passed.
In the course of great events, a man who believes in what he is doing must walk alone for a certain time.
It was finally in February 1905 that I asked three young professionals, Silvester Schiele, Gustavus Loehr and Hiram Shorey, to join me to present to them my project of mutual cooperation and simple friendship as each of us had known it in our village.
They accepted my plan.”
