A Nobel Prize at the Taipei Convention
Transcript :
At the Rotary International Convention in Taipei in June 2026, Malala Yousafzai delivered a landmark speech focused on collective action and women’s empowerment.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate reminded everyone that lasting change depends on small, courageous acts by ordinary citizens.
In a very intimate way, she shared her personal struggle with mental health.
Malala revealed that she overcame the Pakistani cultural taboo to begin therapy after suffering flashbacks related to her assault by the Taliban.
She thus redefined courage: it is not only fighting without fear, but also having the strength to accept one’s vulnerability and to ask for help.
This poignant testimony resonated deeply with Rotary’s values of service, reminding the delegates present of the importance of combining personal resilience and international solidarity to support girls’ education and equality.
