Doctor Schweitzer and Rotary

Transcript :

On October 2, 1951, Dr. SCHWEITZER became an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Colmar (France).

President Marcel KALTENBACH presented him with the insignia, and in his brief speech, the recipient said:

“I am happy to be among you and accept the honor you are bestowing upon me. I feel that I am among a group of men who are at the core of those that, by giving our civilization more spirituality, by deepening its feelings and human ideals, want to help save the world from perdition. Therefore, I am one of you and I approve of your great and noble ideal.”

Several decades later, the French Centennial Governors’ promotion (2004/2005) went to the Hospital of Lambaréné (Gabon) to pay tribute to the action of this exceptional man: a doctor, theologian, philosopher, musician, and always committed to respecting life.

He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952.
